How to Get a Job in Indian Railways : In railways there are technical and non-technical cadre jobs. These are filled by railway recruitment board or RRB. Diesel assistant, electrical assistant, assistant loco pilot, skilled artisan, section engineer, junior engineer are some jobs in technical cadre. The jobs that come into non technical cadre are the ticket collector, goods guard, assistant station master, traffic supervisor, reservation cum inquiry clerk and train clear.
There are also group A posts in railways which are filled through UPSC. For this civil services exam, engineering service exam and special class railway apprentice tests are held.

Group A posts filled by UPSC: Indian railway accounts service, Indian railway traffic service, Indian railway personal service, assistant security officer – railway protection force. Engineering service exam is held to fill four categories of posts and all these are group A services. These are

UPSC also fills doctor posts through combined medical services examination. Not only this, special class railway apprentice exam is held to recruit class 1 mechanical engineers.
Section engineer is one of the highest posts filled directly by railways. other posts filled with engineering qualification are the section engineer works / bridge / civil /chemical / automobile/ mechanical / electronics / welder / loco / diesel / fitter and etc. Age limit for these posts is twenty to thirty five years. Qualification is pass in BE/BTech in related branch. Selection process includes writer exam in which technical and non-technical questions are asked.
Various posts in junior engineer department in railways are filled with diploma qualification. For posts, which require ITI qualification are filled with Diploma holders. Age limit for these posts is between 18 and 33 years.
Presently railway jobs in India are filled through central notification. Applicants can write the test in their regional language. Applicants must mention the language in which they want to write the exam in the application clearly. This is very beneficial for candidates belonging to rural areas.
