Complete Nalgonda District Profile : Nalgonda District was ruled by Ikshakus from 225 AD to 300 AD. The land has given birth to many great poets, fighters, and literati. Nalgonda district was the birthplace for many revolutions. The district was formed in the year 1905 separately. The ancient name for the Nalgonda was Nilagiri. Gradually it became ‘Nallakonda’, ‘Nallagonda’ and ‘Nalgonda’. Many changes were made to the district till 1961.

Nalgonda history is almost 4500 years old. There are many historical evidences showing the existence of ancient civilization. This region was ruled by Satavahanas, Ikshakus, Vishnukundinus, Badami Chalukyas, East Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Kaytsas, Kunduru Cholas, Reddy kings, Padma Nayakas, Gajapatis, Bahamani Golconda sultans, Asafjahi dynasty etc.

Nalgonda has Medak and Warangal districts in North, Guntur, and Mahaboobnagar (Partly) on South, Khammam and Krishna districts on East and Rangareddy and Mahaboobnagar on West. The main attraction of Nalgonda district is the Nagarjuna Sagar project which was named after Acharya Nagarjuna who lives here in 2 nd AD.

People of different cultures live in Nalgonda and even then the people here live in peace and harmony. Population of the district is more than thirty-two lakhs. 4.32 lakh people live in towns and more than 28 lakh people are living in rural areas. Most people depend on agriculture.

The five revenue divisions of Nalgonda are Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Devarakonda, Suryapet, and Bhongir. And there are 59 mandals in Nalgonda and the important Nalgonda mandals are Bhongiri, Bibinagar, Nalgonda, Kattangur, Damercherla, and Huzuranagar. Munugode, Chityal, Atmakur, Kodad and so on.

Nalgonda has many tourist attractions and the district gets lakhs of rupees revenue from tourism every year. Nagarjuna Sagar dam is visited by at least two thousand people every day and the number is doubled during weekends. Bhudan Pochampally is another tourist center and is famous for Pochampally Tie and Dye sarees. Bhuvanagiri fort, situated on a hill is another attraction in the district. There are private lodges and hotels here.

There are many temples on the banks of River Krishna that flows through Nalgonda district. These are Eleswaram, Vadapalli, and Mattampally. Other famous temples are Yadagirigutta, Jain temple at Kolanupaka, Chaya Someswara temple, and Pachala Someswara temple. Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy is the deity at Yadagirigutta. Mattapally temple has a history of more than one thousand years. Chaya Someswara Swamy temple and Pachala Someswara temple are in Panagal which is three kilometers away from Nalgonda town. These two temples are believed to be built 1300 years ago by Kunduru Cholas.
